As I visit two very different locations, the Czech Republic and Italy, I chronologically take note of my observations regarding the layering of built forms over different historical time periods. As I take field data, both in the form of sketching, photography and notes, I will concentrate on urban centers and complexes that have been changed over time, both through architecture and historical events. I plan to observe how these architectural and historical changes have altered their respective areas and affect how people use and respond to them.

Prague Castle
The Castle of Prague, which dates back to 870 AD, is one of the largest castles in the world and has many of the architectural styles of the past millenium. The St. Vitus Cathedral is the main representative of the Gothic era, the tallest and most intriguing one we have visited yet. St. Charles's Basilica is the romanesque example, a very small church area adorned with murals on the domes and walls. ADD MORE
